Privacy
policy

Effective 19 October 2026

The short version

  • There are no accounts, ads, analytics or tracking, and nothing is sold or shared.
  • To get your forecast, the app sends your approximate location (to about 1 km) to the weather service, Open-Meteo.
  • Your settings and saved places stay on your phone.
  • The monthly self-check reminder is scheduled on your phone itself.

The same policy opens inside the app, under Settings → Privacy policy.

What leaves your phone

Thermosack gets its weather from Open-Meteo, run by OpenMeteo GmbH in Switzerland. When the app needs a forecast, it sends Open-Meteo:

  • A location: the place you searched for or saved, or, if you let it, your phone’s approximate position, rounded to about 1 km.
  • Search text: when you look for a place, what you type is sent to Open-Meteo’s place finder.

The request goes from your phone straight to Open-Meteo; we have no servers of our own, so we never see it. Like most web services, Open-Meteo’s servers log each request, including your IP address and the coordinates, and Open-Meteo says it deletes these logs after 90 days and doesn’t share them. See Open-Meteo’s terms and privacy policy.

What stays on your phone

These are kept only in the app’s own storage on your device:

  • your choices from the setup (including whether the sack shows), units and which cards you see;
  • your saved places, and the last place you looked at;
  • the last forecast, so the app has something to show when you’re offline;
  • whether the monthly reminder is on, and its date.

To delete all of it, uninstall the app, or clear its storage in your phone’s settings. If your phone backs up app data (Android’s backup to your Google account, for example), these settings may be included in that backup, under your phone maker’s and Google’s or Apple’s terms.

Location

The app asks for approximate location only, never precise, and only uses it while the app is open. You can say no and search for a place instead; everything still works. You can change your mind any time in your phone’s settings.

Notifications

If you turn on the monthly self-check reminder, the app schedules it on your phone. It isn’t sent from a server, and turning it off cancels it.

The self-check guide and health facts

The guide and the facts are written into the app. You don’t enter any health information, and nothing about how you use them is recorded or sent anywhere. They’re for awareness, not medical advice: if something feels different, see a doctor.

What we don’t do

  • No sign-up, accounts or profiles.
  • No advertising, and no advertising or analytics code from other companies.
  • No cookies or tracking, and no fingerprinting.
  • No selling, renting or sharing of data, because we don’t collect any.

App stores

Google Play and the App Store collect their own information when you download apps (crash reports you agree to share, for example). That’s covered by Google’s and Apple’s privacy policies, not this one.

This website

thermosack.co.za is a plain website: no cookies, analytics, ads or tracking. It’s hosted by Cloudflare, which handles each visit to deliver the pages and protect the site from attacks. Like any web host, it processes your IP address and basic details about your browser to do that, under Cloudflare’s privacy policy. We don’t use any of it to identify anyone.

If you email us

If you write to hello@thermosack.co.za, we get your email address and whatever you send. We use it only to reply, and we never add you to a mailing list. The email passes through Cloudflare on its way to our mailbox. Ask, and we’ll delete it.

Children

Thermosack is not meant for children under 13. The app doesn’t collect personal information from anyone, of any age.

Your rights

Under South Africa’s Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), the GDPR and similar laws, you can ask what personal information is held about you and have it corrected or deleted. Thermosack doesn’t hold any personal information about you, unless you’ve emailed us; ask, and we’ll send you a copy or delete it. For Open-Meteo’s server logs, contact Open-Meteo. You can always contact us with questions.

Changes

If the app ever starts handling data differently, for example if a paid version needs a purchase record, this policy will be updated before that version is released, and the date below will change.
